One of the challenges some people confront who use a fitness diet is how to respond to social events like banquets, parties, office gathering and family celebrations. Some respond to these situations by banking calories. Banking calories is the same as saving money in a bank for future needs. This can be done by skipping a couple of meals before the banquet so that you can eat with gusto in the party to avoid being branded as a fitness buff. The question now is, is banking calories safe and effective? Here are the answers.

If you are banking calories so you can pig out later you will probably end up doing more harm to your body than good. By skipping a couple of meals you are depriving your body of the essential nutrients that it needs to be able to normally function. These include minerals, vitamins, amino acids and essential fats.

Yes, what you are trying to cut down is your calories because you will want to consume a lot at the banquet later on. However, beforehand you will also be depriving your body of these essential nutrients.

So, should you still go to the party knowing you will not be able to eat most of the foods that are served. The answer is, of course yes. There will always be choices that will be presented to you when it comes to food during a party such as turkey breast, cauliflower, carrot sticks and celery.

If you are close to the host of the banquet you can even infom him/her that if it is alright, healthier foods should also be included in the banquet table. If worst comes to worst, you can always opt to eat small portions of the party food.

Do not binge eat after starving yourself as this is damaging to your health and can lead to eating disorders, according to some fitness experts.

Instead, before the party eat your usual dietary intake and during the party treat yourself as you like with only bits and pieces of each party food that you want. Avoid the beer and instead grab a glass of wine while hold on to it for the duration of your time.
