Lose Weight Easier by Not Eating Fast

Do you consume a whole meal in less than five minutes or does it take you almost an hour to finish eating all the food in your plate? Do you eat fast or slow? Do you chew a lot when eating or less?

A recent study recently featured in the Obesity journal found out that the way we eat matters. If you eat the food fast you will end up consuming more energy than when you eat slowly.

This study was done in 11 different restaurants that offer eat-all-you-can buffet meals and the results are convincing. Restaurant patrons that has heavier body mass index sits near or right in front the buffet table, chew the food less per bite and eat fast while patrons with lower body mass index eat more slowly, chew the food more and sit away from the buffet table.

This study confirms that eating slowly enables you to eat less food and thus less caloric energy intake. On the other hand, the less time you spend on eating the food the more caloric intake you will likely consume.
Less caloric energy intake plus more energy usage results in potential body loss while more caloric energy intake plus less energy usage means likely weight gain.

One way to eat less food while feeling full faster is to choose the kind of food that will make you eat less and more slowly. For example, choose the kind of food that requires you to chew a lot so that you will spend a considerable portion of your eating time to chewing rather than guzzling up. Foods that have high water content such as soups will make you feel full faster. Eating lean protein and high fiber vegetables will also make you consume less food.

Also, avoid drinking your calories! Two very significant sources of unneeded calories are derived from drinking sodas and desert coffees.

In conclusion, eating more slowly, chewing a lot per bite and sitting far from the food table will help you consume less food. Along with regular exercise, eat your food slowly to be able to achieve a higher fitness level and live a healthier life.
